I want to take this time to introduce you to Kyle Jung.  Kyle was born in Troy Michigan and since his birth, he and his family have attended TroyHope Ministry.  Kyle recently graduated from University of Michigan and wanted to take the opportunity to intern at TroyHope so that he could discern his call into ministry.  Here is his statement of faith.

God has done work in my life and in my heart. Growing up in the church I thought Christianity was being a good person, following the rules, living a decent life, and that believing in Jesus was purely an intellectual choice. Throughout high school and going into college I was stubbornly thinking: “I just need to believe in my mind harder” but my life did not reflect Jesus, I still did whatever I wanted.

Later in my freshman year of college I experienced the Love of God in a

powerful way. During this period, I believe God gave me a new heart. I would go on missions and serve in campus ministry, not as a checklist or obligation, but I wanted others to know this love and witness to things that God was doing. My junior year I struggled with “my calling,” really wondering where God wanted me. I intentionally devoted my senior year to God at the beginning of this school year. I gave Him my ‘yes’ to many things to see what He could do with it. I believe that this opportunity is from God and I want to give Him my ‘yes’ as faithfully as I can.

With missions and campus ministry I have really only been exposed to preaching, some evangelism, and small group leading. My perspective of occupational ministry right now is limited to pastoring and being a missionary. I have been exposed to administrative stuff through the startup I created and have been trying to be as faithful as possible, but there isn’t direct guidance from a mentor figure. I believe that this internship will allow me to be exposed to different aspects of ministry, helping make more informed decisions for my future. I believe that this opportunity will also allow me to step out in faith and boldness as I grew up at this church and it will challenge me. Overall, I am excited to see how God will use this opportunity for myself and the church.

I believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God and has authority (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19). I believe that there is one true God, who exists and has existed eternally, and He is shown in three persons - The Father, Jesus (The Son), The Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:4-6). I believe that God is the creator and when He created man in His image it was good. When Adam ate of the apple was when the fall of man occurred and sin entered the world, corrupting man, now everyone falls short of our intended design here on earth. I believe that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. I believe that Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, demonstrated miracles, physically died on a cross, and physically resurrected. I believe that Jesus’ blood was shed for man and that there is power in the name and blood of Jesus. I believe that salvation is through grace alone and we are able to access it through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8). I believe that the Church is the body of Christ and we are to make disciples, reach the world, and hasten the return of Jesus (Matthew 28:19, Matthew 24:14, 2 Peter 3:12). I believe the Holy Spirit is God with us in this current time. He lives in the hearts of believers and works within us to sanctify us and help us to do the will of God, apart from God we can do nothing of value (John 15:5).

Since Kyle started his internship back in June 8th, he has started the Wednesday night College Bible study.

He has also attended several pastoral staff events including visitations and House Church gatherings.

Kyle will be preaching his first message on Sunday, July 6 during TroyHope Ministry’s worship service.  He is also traveling to Bolivia from July 7-18 where he will be attending a mission trip through 4 Christ missions.

Then on July 28-31, Kyle will lead a youth retreat as the program director for the Central District Korean American Global Methodist Church’s youth groups.  Finally, his summer internship will end by holding Chosen Generation college and young adult retreat at TroyHope Ministry on August 21-23.

Please pray that Kyle’s summer internship will not only clarify his calling into ministry but that he will mature and grow into the disciple God wants him to be today.

On July 1, Kyle celebrated his 23rd birthday with me and Gina Choi by enjoying some messy but delicious food at Portillo’s.
